| Check out some of the innovative ways a few of our coalition
members are promoting Healthy Monday in their organizations.
Better Bodies -
Better Bodies kicked off Healthy Monday on May 10, 2010. When you enter
our facility, you'll see the tip of the week at the front desk. Also, a
meatless recipe will be displayed each month with copies available and
we are logging our miles exercising in the club as we travel across the
United States.
Campbell County Fiscal Court
-
Members of the Campbell County Senior Center can get a
fresh start every week at our Healthy Monday Corner. Handouts with
nutrition tips, recipes, exercise information and motivation tips are
available every Monday, giving our members 52 opportunities to take
responsibility for their personal health and wellness.
City of Covington
-
The Covington Recreation Department will be hosting
Neighborhood Spotlight events promoting the Monday Mile throughout the
summer months. Details can be found
here. In
June, the city of Covington will be rolling out the Meatless Monday
program to Covington restaurants asking them to promote and/or introduce
healthy meatless entrees on Mondays and providing them with materials
and access to free resources to assist with the promotion of this
healthy initiative. Participating restaurants will be posted on the
city's Web site as well.
Curves
- Curves in Villa Hills is a proud participant in the Healthy
Monday campaign. Our members will find the Healthy Monday tip posted
within our club along with our "Curves Small Steps" tips, giving them
weekly ideas to help promote health, fitness and good nutrition. We have
posted the Healthy Monday link on our Web site under "community
involvement." Through our club newsletter, we are encouraging our
members to walk a Monday (or any day) Mile for cardio exercise when not
doing strength training on our circuit. Copies of meatless recipes that
take advantage of fresh summer vegetables are on display on our recipe
board and available to be copied by our members.
Meijer - Meijer
is helping families eat healthier. In the Spring of 2009, Meijer
introduced NuVal, the nutritional scoring system, into all of the
stores. NuVal looks at over 30 different nutritional components of a
food product and puts it in to one single value, 1-100, with 100 being
your healthiest choice. This system helps customers find healthy choices
in each aisle. To find the NuVal scores on a food product, look at the
shelf tag, by the price of the product. NuVal is on store brand products
as well as National brand products. NuVal is easy to use and helps to
easily compare foods. For more information, visit
www.nuval.com.

Northern Kentucky Health Department
-
The Health Department looks forward to kicking off
worksite wellness programs using Healthy Monday concepts. Our staff has
been developing user friendly worksite wellness materials to offer to
the community thanks to a grant from the National Healthy Monday
organization. The materials will be tested with focus groups in late
summer and will be implemented with pilot sites in the Fall. If your
worksite would like to be one of the pilot sites please contact Marsha
Bach at
Marsha.Bach@nkyhealth.org, or
859.363.2095.
The Health Department is also working with schools in the
Covington Independent school district to pilot Monday Mile and Meatless
Monday initiatives this fall.
Northern Kentucky University
-
Whether you start your week off with a Healthy Monday
Motivator tip, walk a Monday Mile, watch one of two Healthy Monday video
webcasts, or choose a meatless Monday entrée at any of the dining
locations in Northern Fair Dining, NKU’s campus abounds with several
Healthy Monday initiatives. Our campus culture values health, and we
make it easy for our faculty, staff and students to keep investing in
their own well-being.
